When I began working on Unseen Tears: The Native American Boarding School Experience in Western New York. I had no idea it would mean so much to so many people. I also learned just how little I knew about the boarding school period or residential schools if you are in Canada. The governments of the U.S. and Canada made every effort to make Native people into what they wanted as citizens. They attempted to erase Native culture and languages from this world. In doing so they expected that Native nations would cease to exist.
I wrote an essay about making Unseen Tears called Documenting Ethnic Cleansing in Western New York. I can send a copy to anyone who would like to read it. Unseen Tears is also available through digital download here. I hope the video will continue to open the eyes of those who watch and continue to make the unseen seen.
